Day 3

So Monday night, we decided we were going to go to the movie they were showing, which was the new Footloose movie. I was a little skeptical about it because I really love the first one and I thought this may just be a dumb remake that wasn't anything like the original. We got into the movie theater and the movie started and so much of this new movie was either similar or exactly the same, like the clothes, the car, etc, which made me so excited that I decided to see this movie. I really enjoyed this movie, especially since it so closely followed the original, which made it so awesome! I would highly recommend both to anyone who hasn't seen either! We had an awesome time and I can't wait for more movie times at the HPU theater! Also, the picture that is included is of my favorite part, other than the dance at the end, where Wren teaches Willard how to dance, and it is so cute and funny in both movies! :)

Day 2!

Sunday night, me and my house mate Laura decided to have a movie night and invited our friends Kay and Cora over. We watched Crazy, Stupid, Love which I have been waiting like months to see! I was so excited to finally get to see it and to have friends over to spend time with as well.  I think the best part of this movie night was all of us oooing and ahhhing over Ryan Gosling the whole movie! Since that was the case, my picture is of the beautiful Ryan Gosling :)

Day 1

So I got this cool idea from Heather, my sister-in-law, to take pictures to document the year. I didn't see her post about this until a few days ago so I am a little behind but I am going to try to do this for the rest of the year. Today's picture is of my set-up in our living room at HPU for me to sit and read for class, but also enjoy the warmth of the sun, without being out in the wind. I hope yall enjoy!

The Waltz and the Swing

So I know it has been a while since I have posted anything. Sorry guys. So the past couple of dance classes, we have learned the Waltz and the Swing dance. When we first learned the Waltz, I got pretty excited to know the steps to a fairly popular dance that looks so cool. However, it is not quite as easy as it looks. We did a box step in place, a twirl, and then a walking box step, which was kind of difficult because the girl I was paired up with was taller than me, so I had to make sure than I stepped to the side or back enough so I wouldn't get stepped on, while remembering which foot to step back on. We practiced this several times in class and me and the girl I was paired up with finally got the hang of it.  It felt so awesome to be able to do this dance and get it mostly right, without it looking super choppy and not good at all. We then got different partners and learned the swing dance. This dance looks so cool and I am extremely excited that we are learning it! I am hoping that after practicing it, I will be able to make it look "swingier" instead of just going through the motions. I think I am getting closer to getting the steps down so hopefully next class it will be better! I will update yall next week on how that goes!

Social Dance with the Charleston

So for this semester I decided to take a social dance class at HPU. I have several friends who took it last semester and they had a blast! The Sunday before classes started, I began to get nervous about the class, and that nervousness grew more when I got to class and didn't really know anyone. After our first class, I decided that I needed to stay in the class and make the most of it, turning it into a great opportunity to learn some new dances, and maybe even to break out of my shell and meet new people, with hopes of being lucky enough to leave the class with a new friend or two.
On our first day of actually dancing, we had to show a dance move that went with our name. After that, we learned the Charleston, first with the basic steps and then fast-paced with the music. I starting having doubts again about this class because I would mess up one part and get behind from there. I was believing that my body just wasn't made to move like that! Even though I was slightly discouraged, I went home and practiced and felt better about it, even if it was just the slow version! Hopefully after class on Wednesday, and learning the Waltz, I will have another story to tell yall!
